The week of 20th July, AEPI President and Director Operations visited our partner at the EALA parliament in Arusha, Tanzania. There were several items on the agenda, the main focus being planning the next Nanyuki Seminar and conducting a mid-term review of the EALA-AEPI Memorandum of Understanding.
Formal and informal meetings took place over a number of days with the Clerk, Assistant Clerk, and Heads of Departments.
The Next Nanyuki seminar is now planned for mid-November 2026 in Arusha or Nairobi. A theme emerged from discussions as most relevant and current to the needs of EALA and the region:
Global Conflicts and the Changing Trade Dynamics: Parliamentary Strategies for Safeguarding EAC trade; Regional Economic Security; and Integration.
Both partners renewed their wish to continue developing the partnership, and an addendum was discussed to the current Memorandum of Understanding, which will give slightly more focus and direction. The plan is to have the addendum ready for signing as a side event to the seminar in November.
Other items discussed included study visits and developments with the East Africa Parliamentary Institute (EAPI). The institute will now be based in Arusha, with EAPI Hubs in each member country. Hopefully, representatives will be able to participate in the Nanyuki seminar in November.
