CELEBRATING ST. PATRICKS DAY IN NAIROBI

St. Patrick’s day is celebrated the world over and upholding this tradition Irish Ambassador Caitríona Ingoldsby hosted a St. Patrick’s day event in the Ambassador’s residence in Nairobi. There were civil society organisations, Kenyan partners and friends as well as representatives from other embassies. There was, naturally, live Irish music as well as a choir from the university of Nairobi and a brilliant Kenyan singer. The Head of Irish Aid, Michael Gaffey was present as were a group of nun’s who have been rescuing and educating boys abandoned on the Nairobi streets since 1963.

One of the guests was Irish Minister Neale Richmond who commended President Brendan Howlin as “likely to be the most important voice in Ireland for Africa.” In his linkedin post after his visit to Kenya and Tanzania he spoke about the concerning trend of ‘governments are cutting their aid budgets, withdrawing funding from UN agencies, turning away from multilateralism and resetting their long held approach to the global rules based order.’ Please follow this link for his full post:
