AEPI BOARD MEETS MICHAEL GAFFEY, DIRECTOR GENERAL OF IRISH AID

January 2025, Irish Aid Director General Michael Gaffey and three of his team met the AEPI board in the Irish Aid offices in Dublin. During an open and frank discussion development of democracy in Africa was looked at from various angles.

Director General Michael Gaffey talked about the Irish priorities and commitments to Africa and Irish commitment to the Sustainable Development goals (SDGs) even though it’s clear they won’t be met by 2030. Priorities for IA are food security & nutrition, education for women and girls and gender equality. This is not just right but essential. 

Irish Aid are committed to ODA going to the least developed countries. They find it important to develop equal relations. He noted that South Africa invited Ireland to be a guest at the. He also stressed that Ireland wants AEPI to succeed and want to continue to help where possible.
